I’m Matt, the knife maker behind Frogmouth Forge.

Frogmouth Forge began in 2025 and was the manifestation of a lifelong passion for knives. The business name comes from the tawny frogmouths that frequent our back yard at night. As an environmental scientist and aquatic ecologist, I have always loved our native fauna and the name for our business was staring me in the face every night while walking our dogs.

My passion for knives began at a young age and went hand in hand with my love of the outdoors. whether fishing, hunting, hiking or bush bashing a knife was always at my side. As an adult, my job takes me to some of the most remote places in Australia and a sturdy blade is an essential piece of kit when a survival situation is well within the realms of possibility.

As a knife collector and knife steel nerd, the desire to make knives came from wanting something that I couldn’t find elsewhere. I had clear designs and materials that I wanted to work with based on the use and testing of many knives in the past.

At Frogmouth Forge, I aim to produce functional knives designed with purpose. Knives that are made from carefully selected materials to perform well in the environments they were built for.
